The Planning Consultation
Before we even arrive - your Session starts here
No two dogs are the same, and no two Sessions should be either. Before we meet on the day, we spend time together in a Planning Consultation – a conversation designed to make sure everything about your Session is built around you and your dog.
We’ll talk about your dog’s personality, any behavioural considerations, and the kinds of images and artwork you’re hoping to create. If you’ve seen something in my portfolio that you’d love recreated with your dog, this is where we map that out – the right location, the right light, the right time of day to make it happen.
Your artwork vision shapes how I photograph from the very start. Knowing whether you’re hoping for a hero piece above the mantle, a gallery wall, or a full album of personality moments means I’m building your shot list before we even arrive. Nothing important gets missed, every image in your Gallery has a purpose, and if an album is on your radar, you’ll have enough variety across moments, moods and movement to tell a complete story – not a series of similar shots taken in slightly different spots.
Locations
Where we go - the right location changes everything
Location is part of the experience, not an afterthought. During your Planning Consultation we’ll talk through the kind of images you’re hoping for and what your dog is comfortable with, and from there I’ll point you toward the locations I think will work best for you both.
For dogs who need space and quiet, sheltered bushland environments around Kinglake, RJ Hamer Arboretum and Cockatoo give room to decompress and move freely without the pressure of passing people or other dogs nearby.
For something with open air and moving water, the Yarra winds through both Warrandyte and Warburton, offering a completely different feel – natural, textured and full of light.
For confident, social dogs, Melbourne’s urban locations bring a striking contrast – architecture, city backdrops, formal gardens and an energy that produces something entirely different again.

The Session
On the day - a walk, not just a Session
Sessions feel more like a relaxed walk than anything you’d imagine a photography session to be. We arrive, your dog gets time to sniff, move and settle into the environment, and from there we follow their lead (with some suggestions). Some dogs are bounding around within minutes. Others take a little longer to find their feet. Either way, we work with wherever they are – because the best images come from a dog who’s relaxed and entirely themselves, not one being asked to perform.
As a natural light photographer, I work with the environment around us rather than against it – using the quality and direction of light to create images that feel warm, real and alive. My telephoto lens means I can capture genuine moments from a distance, so your dog often forgets I’m there entirely.
Throughout the session, if needed, I’m actively managing the environment around you both. If an off-lead dog approaches, I step in. If someone tries to interact with your dog uninvited, I redirect them. You stay focused on your dog. I handle everything else.
Sessions run for up to two hours – because that’s when both dogs and their people are genuinely at their best. From around 90 minutes in, dogs begin to tire and the quality of what we capture starts to reflect that. Keeping sessions to two hours means your Gallery is filled with images from when you were both relaxed, present and having fun – and not a single filler shot taken just to fill time. If the energy is still there and the light is holding, we keep going. But the time frame exists to protect your Gallery, not cut it short.
Your Gallery
After the Session - curated to show you their best
The images I capture in a Session can number anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand. What makes it into your Gallery is a much smaller, much more considered selection – somewhere between 30 and 70 images that caught a genuine moment, revealed your dog’s personality, or simply made me stop and smile.
No two Galleries look alike, even between Sessions taken at the same location. Your Gallery is built around what happened on your day, with your dog.
When your Gallery is ready – delivered within four weeks of your Session – you’ll receive a private link and a slideshow of your images set to music. I’d personally recommend watching it on the biggest screen you have with a glass of something you enjoy. From there, you choose the Collection that feels right for what you’re seeing – not before, not under pressure, just you and your images and the decision that makes the most sense once you’ve seen them.

The images on your wall won’t just be photographs. They’ll be the version of your dog that made you laugh on a Tuesday morning, the way they moved through long grass, the expression that is so entirely them that anyone who knows them will recognise it immediately. That’s what this is about.
A $300 Session Fee confirms your booking and sets everything in motion – the Planning Consultation, the location, the experience itself. It’s the moment this goes from something you’re thinking about to something that’s actually happening.
